    Saving energy in the brewery

Saving energy is becoming more and more important, especially in sectors with high energy consumption such as the brewing industry. In view of rising energy prices, breweries are looking for ways to reduce consumption, especially in the area of cooling in the fermenting cellar, which can account for up to 40 % of total energy requirements.

Technological advances and optimizations have already made it possible to significantly reduce the energy requirement per hectolitre of beer. One example of such innovations are the Sigrist turbidity meters, which are used to monitor and control the brewing process. These devices are characterized by low power consumption, which has even been reduced by up to 50 % with the latest generation.

However, the real advantage of Sigrist devices lies not only in their low energy consumption, but also in their ability to shorten the fermentation time. Reducing the fermentation time by 1 to 2 days can reduce energy consumption by up to 10 % and prepare the equipment for the next brew more quickly. This not only leads to energy savings, but also to increased capacity and improved beer quality.

In times of rising energy costs, it is crucial that breweries continue to look for efficient solutions to operate more sustainably while maintaining or even improving the quality of their products.

    Sigrist process photometers in breweries

Measurement of turbidity, colour, phase separation

A perfect beer is quality from A to Z. What originally started with the monitoring of beer filtration has long since become a full system programme. With our photometers, the most important measuring parameters such as turbidity, colour and phase separation can be monitored and all optical process control in the brewery can be covered - from the brewhouse to the laboratory.

An overview of the numerous applications using our photometers throughout the entire beer brewing process can be found in our brochure « Optical Measurement Technology for the Brewing Industry ».

Sigrist process photometers in the spirits industry

    Measurement of turbidity, colour

The main applications in the cognac or whisky industry are the control and monitoring of the filtration process and the assurance of product quality through laboratory measurements. For whisky and cognac in particular, cold filtration after precipitation of fatty acids is an important process step for product quality. Filtration control for high-proof alcohols requires ex-proof measuring instruments. From 1st September 2021, we are expanding our product portfolio with an optimised ex-proof process measuring instrument for continuous and reliable turbidity measurement (optionally with colour measurement) in the spirits industry!

An overview of the numerous applications with our photometers - including those for the wine and soft drinks industry - can be found in our brochure « Optical Measurement Technology for the Beverage Industry ».

Sigrist process photometers in water treatment

Measurement of turbidity, UV and VIS absorption, and UV fluorescence

We all want drinking water not only to be available when needed, but also to be free of contamination. With our process photometers, important measuring parameters such as turbidity, DOC value, colour or oil content can be continuously and reliably monitored. This ensures that contaminations in the raw water or deficiencies in the treatment process are detected immediately and that only water of excellent quality reaches the consumer

Sigrist process photometers for industrial processes

Measurement of turbidity, colour, oil-in-water, concentrations

Typical applications in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries are monitoring the turbidity values of blood plasma and silicone oil as well as in methacrylic acid and raw or process water. Turbidity in liquids is used as a measure of the effectiveness of purification steps (e.g., filtration) as well as an indirect parameter for determining the concentration of particles or solids in liquids.

In many industrialised countries, laws specify the permissible dust emission from power plants and make continuous measurement of the dust concentration mandatory. Our process photometers are used for continuous and reliable plant control and optimisation of emission performance. In this way, any deviations from limit values can be detected and corrected accordingly - for the protection of both people and the environment.
