One of the busiest highways in Switzerland is the A2 around Lucerne. This highway is part of the direct North-South link from Germany to Italy. As an average, more than 85’000 vehicles per day are using the stretch between Emmen and Kriens. After more than 30 years of extensive use, a viaduct in the North, the 600 meter long tunnel “Reussport”, a bridge connecting the city of Lucerne and the 1.5 kilometre long tunnel “Sonnenberg” in the South are refurbished between 2009 and 2013.
During the refurbishment, the existing old KTN instruments for the ventilation control will be replaced by 10 VisGuard extractive systems. They will be installed by the company ACP. In addition, both tunnels will be upgraded with early fire detection systems according to the recommendations of the Swiss Road Authorities ASTRA. There will be altogether 52 FireGuard instruments installed by the company Siemens.
